Dear Mendham Borough School Community:
Although we currently have no concerns about the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) in our schools, as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control we are in the process of making preparations for the possibility that the spread of the virus may have an impact on school attendance and/or require the closing of schools. These preparations are solely based on the exercise of an abundance of caution.
We are closely monitoring the situation and following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the World Health Organization, the New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH), the Bernards Township Health Department and the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE).
We have increased our supply of hand sanitizers, disinfectant wipes and cleaning products that are effective against common disease-causing organisms. We are following the CDC’s guidelines for cleaning by increasing the cleaning frequency of high traffic and frequently touched areas.
The administration and staff have been working on a plan to support continuity of teaching and learning should we require to close. Our school nurses are reminding students and staff the importance of hand-washing and proper hygiene and staying home when sick.
It is important to take this opportunity to emphasize some of the preventative measures recommended by the CDC that help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases, including:
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
- Stay home when you are sick.
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
- If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty.
We will continue to monitor the situation and take the necessary precautions to insure the health and safety of our school community. We will keep you informed through our website news and weekly communication from each of our schools.
