Winter has been a fantastic in second grade!
In Reading workshop, the students have been working on strategies to navigate non-fiction books, including using the table of contents and the index. This pairs nicely with our current work in Writing Workshop, where students are in the midst of creating their All About books. The students are working to create chapters for their topic, feature pages, a glossary, and so much more!
In Math, students have just wrapped up our word problems unit where students were exposed to a variety of different diagrams to help them when setting up to solve a word problem. Our previous work in our addition and subtraction units set us up for success as we studied word problems.
Social studies has been buzzing with activity this month, as we have been studying presidents including George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. Our students created a portrait of themselves and a writing piece detailing the things they would like and dislike if they were president.
In Fundations we have just begun our work in studying vowel teams. Our first two vowel teams were “ai” and “ay.”
